When I'm tryin to update my Windows (98SE, IE 5.5) on

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp says ..

there is message
"Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update software..."

... but it never gets any further.

It starts 2 weeks ago. Going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ displays
nothing in the browser, but view source shows an entire web page. Have tried
turning off Anti-Virus components, and disabled all anti-virus software
(AVG+Zone Labs) - no result. Have checked my system for viruses and trojans
(AVG, A-Squared, AntiVir, Panda, Kaspersky) - it's clear... Where is the
problem?

I've tried to cahanfe my browser security options to "low" - no changes...
Help pls...

Open the Windows Update.log located in the WINDOWS directory with
Notepad. Copy and paste the lastest date's entries into your next post
so that someone *may* assist you. They will be located at the bottom of
the log.

I have exactly the same problem, however on a Windows XP Pro on a Laptop. It
also started a few weeks back. If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix
it, I would appreciate.

Thanks

the solution - there is problem with running java- and vb- scripts. It needs
to pre-register jscript.dll and vbscript.dll:

Start-> Run -> regsvr32 jscript.dll -> [enter]
Start-> Run -> regsv32 vbscript.dll -> [enter]

After this all works properly - but it's for Win98. If you have different vb
and js dll-s, you must find and pre-register them - but I think that in Win
XP they are the same... Try this - I think all will be ok.
