An afterthought....
Before you start in the Registry, you might try the easier option
first and look in System.ini. in case Brother did it that way.
(Start-Run-Sysedit and open System.ini)
Look for a section:
[386Enh]
If the line below is there, delete that line:
device=brmemory.vxd
