Can someone PLEASE help me?

Im a newbie here and in desperation am looking for a easy to understand
solution to removing the Windows Live Messenger Beta. I was constantly
getting messages to upgrade to Beta so today I relented and did just
that - what a disaster! I want to remove it snd go back to my previous
version. I have gone through the usual uninstall proceedure in Control
Panel but cannot uninstall it, nothing happens. I have tried to
reinstall my old version of WLM but I get an error message saying I have
`catastrophic failure` error code: 0x8000fff

Can someone please help me before I have to format my hard drive!!! ?

Uninstall the beta by using control panel uninstall...choose item Windows
Live Beta(all programs). Uncheck Live Messenger.
After uninstall of beta then try to reinstall older version(8.5??).
More version information in your post (XP or Vista) will help in getting
more concise replies!!

Greetings Linda,

You can manually uninstall Messenger by clicking Start, then Run (only click Run if not using
Vista),
then inputing the following and hitting enter:
msiexec /x {B1403D7D-C725-4858-AACC-7E5FA2D72859}

You can find the other IDs for the other parts of the latest beta applications here on my
blog:

I had the same problem, but on a Windows XP installation. The way I finally
was able to remove WLM was to click on Start - Run then typed in appwiz.cpl
and clicked on ok. Then I scrolled down to the WLM installer and clicked on
remove. The thing that got me was that I couldn't remove WLM through
Add/Remove programs on the Control panel, but yet when I started the
Add/Remove through the command line it worked.... go figure.

I have XP Home and installed Windows Live Messenger 9 beta. - Mistake!!!
I couldn't get it to sign in and by searching the error code I found that
MANY people had the same problem. It didn't want to uninstall either, so I
used ZapMessenger first
(http://www.blogsdna.com/1562/complet...pmessenger.htm)
and then Add/Remove Programs to get rid of it.
Then when I tried to install a more stable version (8.5) I received the same
0x000fff error you're getting. More research led me to a forum where
Jonathan Kay gave me the magic cure! I simply downloaded the 8.5 messenger
from here:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/redir/wlm85.asp and I'm happy to report
that it is working PERFECTLY!!! -- Thank you, Mr. Kay!
