Is there any built in way in Vista to save audio as either .wav or .mp3 file ?
If not, where can I find a free or inexpensive program that saves audio ?

Appreciate any help.

Windows Sound Recorder only saves to .wma format, I believe.

For more flexibility, try the free Audacity
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
