I have tried several things to install one or both of these but continue to
have problems. I followed the advice of MowGreen first posted on 2/17/07 w/no
luck. I checked in my ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS and neither the KB925672 nor the
KB927978 are listed. BUT I checked my Windows Update History and it has these
two Updates listed several times and ALL of the updates have a green dot by
them indicating that they were indeed installed correctly. Then I try to
examine the installation log file by going to RUN and typing
%Windir%/KBnnnnnn.log and I get this message: Windows can't find
C/windows/KBnnnnnn.log....

Of course everytime I turn on my computer I have a notice that these two
updates are ready to install. Or when I turn it off I have the updates
automatically installing ...I have even turned off the computer w/out
letting them auto. install... and tried to just install the one, KB927978
update, but the same thing happens as I mentioned in paragraph above. Can't
understand why neither of these updates are listed in ADD/REMOVE PROG> Yet
they are listed in the Mic. Update log history.
I am using Windows XP Service Pk. 2 .

Can anyone help me resolve this problem? I have read some of the other posts
where people are having problems w/these 2 install. and have done
troubleshooting to no avail. Please give clear/simple instructions if you
can.

Thanks in Advance,
Retired Nana

Is is extremely odd that they aren't listed in Add/Remove Programs, I don't
know if I can help or not but we can try a few things.
Can you verify that the "show updates" check box is selected at the top of
the Add/Remove window. If present they should be listed under the m's as
MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB925672) and MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB927978). If they should
reappear here is a link to a better posting of MVP MowGreens article on
their removal:
http://mowgreen.castlecops.com/archi...5672_repe.html
If you want to examine the update log click Start then run and in the Open
box,
type %windir%\windowsupdate.log, and then click OK. The most recent entries
will be at the bottom.
Lets try to clear the update folder next.NOTE: You will not be able to
access your update log after this procedure.
Print this out and close all programs before proceeding.

1. Go to Start/Control Panel/(security center if using category
view)/Automatic Updates, select "turn off automatic updates" and click okay,
ignore all warning messages.
2. Click Start, and then run, and in the open box type in: services.msc -
hit okay .
3.Right-click on Automatic Updates and select stop. Minimize the Services
window.
4.Click start and then run, type in cmd and hit okay. In the black command
window that opens type in: cd %windir% and press enter. Now type in:
ren SoftwareDistribution SDTemp and press enter. Next type in exit and press
enter to close this window.
5. Restore the Services window that was minimized earlier, Right-click on
Automatic Updates and select start. Close this window after start.
6. Restart the computer, after boot up proceed to reattempt a manual install
of 927978, DO NOT install 925672.
7. Turn Automatic Updates back on.

Once again this amy or may not work, I am still perplexed by the absence of
these updates in Add/Remove programs.

Thanks Charlie,
I rechecked the ADD/REMOVE Programs. and found both of them. Don't know if
they reappeared OR I just didn't look in the right place, as I wasn't looking
under the m's but under the "expanded list of installed updates" (duuhhh)
Anyway I have gone to the MOWGREEN link you suggested, Printed it out and
will go from there..hopefully sometime today. I will let you know how it
goes, either way.
Thanks again, Nana
