I downloaded these same updates on my Windows XP Home SP1 and it
slowed my machine to a crawl! Now when I try to open the drive list
from a file dialog, or even browse in Windows Explorer, it takes about
15 seconds or more to finally display the list. The same with
pressing CTRL-O and entering a web address in IE6. It freezes the
dialog for awhile before opening the site I entered...
I did a system restore to a point before the updates and the speed
issue has not improved.
Directly before installing all these security updates, it was
operating snappily. Even pressing the "source" button in PowerDVD now
takes 30 seconds for the source options to come up....it was immediate
before!
I also noticed that my CPU resources started peaking around 60% from
time to time and saw that it was my PestPatrol software, which was
behaving nicely with low CPU usage before the updates.
I have stayed away from SP2 because of all the problems, but it
appears these updates have cause their own share...sigh.
