I installed the last Vista patch and it would not complete. I get a
"configuring updates Stage 3 of3 0% complete"

It runs that page for a while and then re-boots and it starts all over
again.

I tried using the Vista Install disk to do a repair but while Vista says it
did fix the issues, I re-boot and am again caught in the same loop.

I tried a safe boot. I eventually get kicked back to the same Vista Patch
loop..

So, I tried to install Windows 7 and tried the upgrade option.

It tells me I must do a normal re-boot in Vista before I do the upgrade
:-(

Can anyone tell me how I can terminate that Vista patch loop and force a
normal re-boot to Vista?... I really hate to re-format my C drive even
though most of my data files are on my D drive

A thought..
Perhaps someone knows file that initiates the update of the patch and could
I edit that file and delete the command that starts that Vista update loop??

I may not answer this quest fully, so wait for more responses but keep this
in mind - if you can -
NEVER UPGRADE BY WRITING NEW OS OVER OLD, ALWAYS DO A CLEAN INSTALL;
OVERWRITING EXISTING OS IS A RECIPE FOR TROUBLES & CLUTTER, LESS STABLE,
SLOWER SYSTEM!!

I'm not sure about this--but it looks promising--try
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358>

The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and the
computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows Vista

Give this one a whirl: http://www.anguas.com/?p=47

Please let us know what fixes the problem or if the pяoblem remains
