So we've created ISO images of all of our enterprise disks, as well as
others such as HP SmartStart 7.40, etc. I can connect to a server using ILO
Remote Console, connect the SmartStart ISO in Virtual Media, boot the
server, and it loads up SmartStart from the mounted image just fine, as
though the real CD was in the drive...as it should.
The problem is when it prompts for the Windows CD during the setup...in
Virtual Media I connect the Server 2003 ISO image, but it comes back and
says to insert the right disk. The ISO image I am connecting is the right
one...made off of the factory MS disk. I've tripled-checked the version,
made new images, tried ISO's made from the original 2003 Server disk as well
as the one with SP1 slipstreamed, no difference. If I walk back there and
stick the actual CD in...the one I just used to make the ISO image that does
not work...it takes that just fine and starts the OS install.
Once I build the OS, I can connect this exact same Windows ISO in Virtual
Media, and it mounts just fine, and I can use it to install other Windows
components like IIS that require the CD. So to sum it all up, the ISO is
fine, it's the right version, it works in all circumstances except the one:
when SmartStart prompts for it during setup...it will not take the ISO, only
the actual CD.
This cannot be by design because too many people use ILO and the Virtual
Media feature to build servers without having to actually touch them or
insert media. Can anyone help???
