I really am stuck.

I have 2 PCs running Vista Home Premium. Both have file and printer
sharing on.

When I try to connect from one to the other to find the printer I get
asked for a password and user name.

What password?. I don't have a password on either and if I leave the
password blank it won't connect.

Any help appreciated

Mary

Click Start> Network> Network and Sharing:

Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames and
passwords on ALL computers in your Network) If you have it ON, and no
identical usernames/passwords set up, you will be asked for a username and
password when you try to access a Vista computer from an XP computer, or a
Vista computer.

This is a serious flaw, one of many, in Vista networking, which many users
encounter because Vista does not have any rational wizards to walk users
through the process of setting up a peer to peer network and defaults to
illogical settings.
Worse comes when users who are not IT professionals want to share anything
other than the "public" folders.
Apple users have less problems not because the hardware or network protocols
are any better but the setup routines do not require Microsoft Networking
certification.
Of course if you want to do more than small peer to peer networking using
Apples you are SOL and will rapidly go broke paying for hardware at 2 to
three times its actual retail value . . .
