Help, Vista won't start!

I just got a new laptop with vista a few months ago. Everything ran smoothly
until recently when I went to turn it on and got an error message that’s
repeated ever since.
It shows the black 'vista' page, the screen turns black, and after a while a
box pops up reading;

'window error recovery'
A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

It suggests I launch startup Repair. However when I do so it says "startup
repair cannot repair this computer automatically."

I've tried going into system recovery options and using system restore to a
date when it was working correctly, but it seemed to have no effect. I
haven’t changed any hardware or software recently, and the only thing plugged
into it was the power cord.

I'm afraid I'm not very tech savvy, but I don't want to give up on a brand
new computer! I’m at a loss, if anyone has any suggestions they would be
Greatly appreciated.

The computer has a software and hardware warrantee for a year, after
purchase. You should call the computer manufacture tech support for help.

That's the second person that I now know of that has boot up problems with
vista, hers was due to an "update" in the very buggy vista software when
she updated her PC it rebooted and totally wiped her wi-fi connection,
luckly I was able to fix her problem.

Yours is going to be a trip to where you got the system from unless you have
the recovery disks that you either had to make !! or were given with your
system.

If you have to run Windoze then 2003 is best for business
or if your more games orientated then XP even they both have there good and
bad points.

Just don't hold your breath for windoze 7 imho windoze 3 was probably the
best.

If your not into doze games then try a live Linux distro disk, PCLINUX os
would be the choice for beginners and Windoze users, it works with 98% of
the current hardware.

Linux - Free not a Virus Spyware or Trojan in sight
Windowz - Expensive buggy viruses spyware trojans & SLOW
Vista OS- Vastly Inferior Sotware Try Another OS

One last try you might make before an onerous trip thru the warrantee
revolving door is chkdsk.

In that F8 menu where you did a startup repair, you will probably see an
option for a "Command prompt". There you can type the command:

CHKDSK /R

This will try to repair your hard drive problems.
If no help, and you have no backup, or 'restore to factory defaults' options
available, you need to call the maker of the system. (They WILL tell you to
use the 'restore to factory' option, if you have one)

What firewall, anti-virus application or security suite is installed? There
are some that cause problems which do not appear immediately.

Just tried that, it says, "chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by
another process"

If you can boot to a Vista setup disk, you can run that command.

As of recently Trend is known to cause problems.

Replace Trend with the free AVG http://free.grisoft.com/ or Avast
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html, and Windows Firewall and Windows
Defender. Disabling Trend is not enough. You need to completely uninstall
it.

Tried it there, now it reads:

"The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.
Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write
protected."

Tried running safe mode, but it crashes at the same place before it gets
anywhere.
