HELP! Windows Update Not Allowed

when i try to update the last 5 security updates...they fail every time...it
is at the installation stage where it fails...the updates are :
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1
Security Update for Windows XP (KB873339)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB885835)
Critical Update for Windows XP (KB886185)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB885836)

My situation is: I have service pack 2, I had just had a virus with these
symptoms- creates "poker/bingo" icons on the desktop and in favorites in IE
that are irremovable...this virus was removed by using restore point. I would
like to know how I can fix this problem. PLEASE HELP ME cause its really
irritating me. By the way, this has never happened before
