Hello

I am looking for solution for upgrading XP from SP1 to SP2.

Two weeks ago I needed to recover system on my XP SP2 PC. The recovery has
been made with my OEM cd with the XP SP1. Now I have SP1 on my system and the
web windows update to the SP2 do not work.

-When I start windows update, the program looks to the update history and do
not recognize, the SP1 is on the system (system console shows SP1, hovewer).
The updater find only 3 updates, ampong otgers the windows 3.1 installer,
which could not be successfuly installed due to the missing SP2.

-When I download SP2 redistributable and start it, the installation goes
into infinitive loop and it need to be canceled.

I "hear" about the similar problems on the web, but there was no answers.

Is there anybody who could advice me how to recover my pc?

thanks in advance: Jani

A system recovery disk will leave the SoftwareDistribution folder and
it's log files intact. That's why WU doesn't see the need to offer SP2
As to why the Redistributable is failing, check the setupapi.log located
in WINDOWS for errors or post it here.

Thank you very much for your message

I started the new installation of SP2 again, as I could not valuate entries
in setupapi.log and hi is still "running" now..I mean looping infinitive.

At the end of this file you can see a lot of errors when copying files. The
setupapi.log remains now unchanged by size (no new entries comes in).

When I start now taskmanager, I see the proces fixccs.exe is taking
permanently about 50% of the cpu for his activities.

Now remains to me only to cancel the installation.

If you could find some iregularities within setupapi.log or have other
advices, I would apreciate your help very much.

regards: Jani

p.s.: I cuts the first part avay (where no errors are evident) from the
installation. The limit is 30.000 characters...

Have you checked the PC's manufacturer's web site for information on
installing SP2 ?
fixccs.exe - Fix CCS MaxSubkeyName mismatch
fixccs.exe is from SP2 and is busy attempting to restore XP back to SP1.
Allow it to finish, please.

http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm#C...Service_Pack_2
On the above page, check the " Service Pack 2 installation log files "
heading. It will tell you where both logs are.
From the section of the setupapi.log that you posted, I can not tell
where the error(s) are.

Hello

I am sorry, but fixccs runs over night (for about 6 hours) and he did not
complete his "task". I checked the section "installation log files" and the
filename is svcpack.log

there I could found at the EOF:

607.438: Starting process:
c:\a722526182836f53707118c1e7113227\i386\\update\f ixccs.exe

24313.328: Message displayed to the user: Are you sure you want to cancel?
24313.328: User Input: YES

Between first and second line is a bit more then 6 hours.

therwise I found I am not the only one customer with such problem. I found
same question as mine on the web, but there was none to answer that. So I
dont have much idea more.

regards: Jani

I looked to this web adress and I found the filename indeed.
Within my last message I included three last lines of the logfile -
"svcpack.log". I've posted it to you. Here again:
