My short hi def home movies play fine on my P4 machine using XP MCE. Media
center and MP 10 both play them. But I bought a new desktop (because I was
having trouble editing and rendering my longer hd movies with Pinnacle
Studio). But the new computer won't even play the short hd movies using the
Vista MC or MP11. They're real jerky and the sound doesn't sync. The new
specs: HP d4999t with Intel core 2 quad Q6700 @ 2.66GHz and 4MB ram running
Vista home premium 32 bit. NVidia GeForce 8600GT with 512MB connected with
HDMI to a Vizio 37" lcd tv. This problem continues even after I installed
Vista SP1. Earlier I was flamed on an NVidia newsgroup for suggesting it
was the card. Someone said it must be a missing codec. But I've heard
there's problems installing codecs on Vista computers. Any ideas? What
codec(s)? Where do I get them and how to install them? Should I just not
use WMC or WMP for these clips and try another player? Which player(s) are
most likely to play them? I posted this to the mediacenter newsgroup a week
ago but got no responses. I just need to know how to smoothly run a windows
media (.wmv) file with 1440 x 1080 dimensions and a 5234 kbps bit rate in
WMC, WMP or otherwise.
