Hibernate/Sleep restarts

Hello, This is the second time in the past year I had to do this and I cant
remember what I did to fix it. When I click the "round circle" hibernate
button it shuts down and the restarts again? Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks!

Hi Chad,

This may be able to help you. Check to see what is allowed to wake up
your computer. Also check to make sure that the "Wake on ..." options
are turned off in the BIOS.

Well I had tried both sugestions and I cant get either to work. It now works
like this. If I priss the round button it puts the monitor into a sleep but
the PC continues to run and if I click the word "Sleep" it does the same
thing. How do I get the button to have the PC go into hybernation meaning
shut the PC down but save what I had open and what I was working on like it
was? Thanks!

Ok Chad, let's see how this goes for you

1. Make sure that the "Hibernatio File" was not disabled in Dis
Cleanup. If so, it will need to be restored. This will show you how

2. Make sure that you have the Power Options set for Hibernation. Se
step 8 in Step Two for how

3. If you want to change the power button in the Start Menu to wher
hibernates the computer instead of sleep, then select "Hibernate" i
step 9 here

Brink, well it works now. I tried the first link and typed the powercfg -h on
and tried it and it works now but whats wierd is I tried that before and
nothing happened and I even rebooted! Antway thanks for the help
everyone......

Let me try to help You, I’ve had this same trouble before:

Simply uncheck "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" for
your USB mouse and PS/2 keyboard under "Device Manager".

Vista has these options enabled by default and with some motherboards this
is a little bit annoying since this doesn’t enable the PC sleep or hibernate
correctly.

It worked for me. Let me know if this works for you.

I have one last question. How do I get the words hibernate in the list along
with switch user, log off, lock, restart, sleep and shut down? I also wanted
to know where is the option to change what you wanted that round button to do
either sleep or hibernate. Oh leandro my problem was fixed but I looked at
your solution and it is checked but I left it alone untill next time...Thanks!
