Well they can still contact you, if they're using Windows Live Messenger as they can send you
can offline message (you'll still appear offline). Since you're really online, the message
will be delivered to you immediately. You could always just send them a message that you're
there.
But, as for letting the contact see you online while you're appearing offline -- you don't.
The only real way to do this is to stay online but block all your contacts except for that
one. Probably too much work to really do all the time.
