The first one has a tab that includes your list of favorites, history, and
your rss feeds. You select the appropriate tab for the information you want.
If you want to click the star and see your favorites, then select the
favorites tab. Every time you click on the star, the last open tab opens
again, so if you always want favorites to come up, then you use that tab.
Click the star to open or close the pane. You can click on the squares
instead of the star and toggle through the open tabs on your browser.
You cannot disable the star, but you can learn how to use it. The Favorites
Bar takes up screen space, the Favorites Button does not. The Favorites Bar
has the same information in it as the Favorites Menu, so the bar is a waste
of space, and you really don't need it -- which is why you can turn it off.
MSoft recognizes that Favorites is a very useful tool, so they give you the
star button that cannot be taken off and a favorites bar and the Menu Bar
that can both be removed from your view. If the favorites bar and menu bar
are removed, then yo cannot get to your favorites except by the star button.
Since the star button lives on the line of the Tabs, then it does not take
any space that could be used for other stuff, like displaying the pages you
want to view. The Tabs remain visible even if you are not using tabbed
browsing. Since you have tabbed browsing available, you may as well use it.
Instead of opening multiple instances of IE, you can open multiple tabs
within a single instance and then switch from tab to tab.
