How to hide optional downloads?

I'm on Vista with IE7. For some odd reason I am being presented with 17
optional updates (language packs). I don't want to install these. Also, I
don't want to see these updates everytime I manually interface with Windows
Update; I just want to see if there are any NEW optional updates, not these
17 updates I know I will never want to install. There used to be a way to
hide these. In fact, on the interface to Windows Update, there is an option
to unhide updates so I can install them. Instead, I want to HIDE them so I
don't have to deal with them. I found one help item that told me to hide the
updates if I didn't want to see them anymore, but it provided no way to do
this with IE7, Vista, and the new Windows Update.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Windows Update has not changed from V6 yet. So, the instructions to hide
the updates are the same.

I'm using Vista with IE7. Access to Windows update is through the Windows
Update application in the Control Panel. Even If I go to IE7, Tools, then
Windows Update, I don't see a web page as you describe. I see instead the
Control Panel Application. None of the menu options or links from the form
lead to anything about hiding the updates.

Go to windows Update and open the page so you can see all the updates.
Right click on the update you want to hide and select "Hide Update".
Repeat for each update you want to hide.
