Hide Taskbar Icons

OK, let me see how to best phrase this..

I use Vista HP

In my 'Taskbar' properties, I have "Hide Inactive Icons" checked, and
want to set all my icons to "Hide.

However, I have TONS of icons there and periodicaly I install ne
programs that put their own icons

Therefore, I'd like to know if there is any registry hack tha
automatically marks ALL existing and NEW icons as "Hide." This way,
don't have to do it manually

I do NOT want to get rid of the icons nor do I want to disable th
taskbar. I just basically want the clock, the battery icon (which "Hide
doesn't affect anyway), and the little arrow that I can click and i
will expand to show all my hidden icons

Please don't suggest that I do it by hand, manually, icons-by-icon b/
I obviously know that. I'm looking for convenience here

And, "Hide Inactive" by itself is not good b/c sometimes when a ne
icons appears it can be a while before it disappears

Anyway, is this possible w/ a registry edit of some sort

Thank you, :
A

hello typeadam, and welcome to the forums, arty:

I don't believe there is a hack to set all icons to hide once, but I
agree it would save time

but if you do not want to see the battery icon you can disable this
from taskbar properties - notification area -un check the box, also
works for clock, network and sound icons

hmm... OK, how about this: is it possible to change the time that a
icon is inactive before it hides

Normally, Windows seems to take a few hours + or - to hide an icon i
deems "inactive" so if there's a way to change that time to 2 seconds o
something like that it would be just as effective as my "auto hide
feature..

I don't think it's simply a time thing, if the program represented b
the icon is active in memory say polling the keyboard for it'
activation sequence then I think that is classed as active.

The Always Hide option for each icon must be held in the registr
somewhere and so it should be possible to set this programatically. I
may be possible to write a script, (using something like Powershell)
that could be run at login to do this.

all we need now is a Powershell Guru to do it ;

Try this script here:
http://www.paulsxp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=125

This script will always hide inactive Icons in the System Tray Notification
area of the Taskbar
