Is there a way to get Vista to act more like XP did when you press
ctrl+alt+del to logon on. Right now with Vista when you press ctrl+alt+del
you then get the icons(pictures) for the users of that machine. I liked it
better with XP when you press ctrl+alt+del you key in your password and you
are in. Assuming you logged on last and your id is still in the box.

Any way to hide the pictures and just have the last users come up? With an
option to log on as another user.

John

Vista Home Premium/Basic or Ultimate/Enterprise/Business?

If its the former you can change the...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\Syste*m\DontDisplayLastUserNam e

....value from the default zero (0) to one (1). When you logoff and back on
you will be presented with a login screen that asks for the User ID and
Password, ie. not the default Vista Welcome screen with all users listed.
Will that work for you?

Note you do not need to reboot for the change to take effect. You should
also run regedit as an administrator.

With Vista Ultimate, Enterprise or Business editions you can do the same
thing using the group policy editor. Run gpedit.msc and navigate to the...

Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Local Policies\Security
Options\Interactive logon: Do not display last user name

....policy setting. Here is a spread sheet that maps group policies by the
way.
