Ultimate 64 bit - I have "Hide protected operating system files
(recommended)" checked, as I always have. Now the following folders are not
hidden - CDocuments and settings, MSOCache, and System Volume Information. I
have no idea what caused this to happen.

Ideas appreciated.

Well, there is no 'Documents and Settings' in Windows Vista, it has been
replaced by 'Users' which is at the root of the drive. Its not an operating
system folder either, those would be Windows, System, System 32. You can't
easily delete them either if you UAC turned on, and if you do try to delete
them, you would need to have Trusted installer privileges.

I think he must be talking about the junction points that point to the new
locations, in which case deleting them would not be a good idea at all. I'd
just tell him to hide all hidden files, as you do not need to see all that
junk in your normal running user account.

They should be hidden in that case. Check they still have the system
attribute with the ATTRIB command. I'm sure they will have, in which case I
am sure they would disappear again once closed the Explorer window and then
opened another up again. I have a .vbs script that toggles hidden files
with a keypress, but there is sometimes a delay like that.

But junction points are hidden automatically which prevents them from being
easily deleted and this in the Users App Data folder.

SS,

Thanks for the reply. Since posting I found more folders that should be
hidden, but aren't. I am not sure, but I may have found the issue with the
folders. A while ago I used a folder marked program to color the folders on
the different drives different colors. When I did this I think it colored
some hidden folder as well. So - I am going to format the drive, do a clean
install of Ultimate 64, and solve several issues.
