I keep getting the message that I have a update that needs to be downloaded,
but when I go there as you can see below it is 0 kb and 0 mins to download.
therefore is not updated. Can anyone tell me why I can't do this high
priority update. many thanks

High-priority updates
Microsoft Windows XP

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB922770)
Download size: 0 KB , 0 minutes (Downloaded; ready to install)
A security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to
compromise your Windows-based system running the Microsoft .NET Framework and
gain access to restricted data. You can help protect your computer by
installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may
have to restart your computer. Details...
Don't show this update again

Check and see if you have an install log for the update:
C:\windows\KB922770.log and see if it reports an error.

According to MS, this is a BITS problem.

First see if you have any errors in the Event Viewer for MSIInstaller.

What is the status of BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) in
SERVICES.MSC (Start | Run ... SERVICES.MSC)

If not started, start it. If you get an error, post here.

Have you tried manually downloading the update and installing:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms06-056.mspx
for the download
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Since MS is telling the OP that the file is already downloaded, they do not
need to download again.
The download is sitting in the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
folder.

They can manually run the install from there.

Most people do not recognized that the message from MS says Downloaded,
ready to install. That is the reason for 0 kb and 0 mins to download.

The update is in the folder I stated.

Which version of Windows is installed ?
Is the or/can you start the update service [ Automatic Updates in XP;
Windows Update in Vista ] ?
IF both AVG and Windows will not update and you can not start the update
service then the system is most likely infected with malware.
