Hi, because of all the troubles I have with defender, i want to get rid of
it. Its an too much security program. Even my own programs (not windows
certificated, like Sophos Antivirus and so on) doesn't work properly.
How do I reinstall it...there is no softwarefeture for it.
Dont tell me to shut it down or something like that. I want to remove it
from my pc. It always appears in my taskbar, even when I use the option never
to start it up in Windows. Very Windows I believe.
Please reply.............

Just set the Windows Defender Service to a start mode of Disabled (4).
Can be done with Services.Msc.

Defender doesn't appear in my task bar. Actually, I forget that it's even
running.

Easiest way is to Right Click the "Computer" icon. From the menu choose
(Left Click) Manage. The Microsoft Management Console will open. It's
a dual-pane interface. Click on Services. In the Alphabetized list in the
left
pane locate Windows Defender Service. Right Click it & take Properties.
Set it's "Startup Type" to Disabled. Then use the Service Status button
"Stop" to immediately terminate the service. On subsequent boots Defender
will not start or run.
*It may cause the Security Center to nag you about Defender being off.

Lokkie,

Go to this link for details on how to disable a service. The service
name for Windows Defender is "Windows Defender".

Hope this helps,

My Defender is NOT running as soon as I installed an antivirus program. I
would NOT want to be without it's use cause it is the best way to control
programs in the Start list, which still works. Totally uninstalling
Defender would be a mistake. That's two cents worth.

Hi Jerry,

I would leave Windows Defender on to, but you can not uninstall it only
turn it off.

Which antivirus program did you install? Avast is a great free
antivirus program that never gave me problems, and is fully 32 or 64 bit
Vista compatible. You do need to register it though, even though it is
free. Here's a link for it if your interested.

What sort of problems are you having? Before disabling the program let people
know the trouble you are having. Windows Defender should run silently in the
background. As others have said it is a good program. It doesn't appear in my
taskbar.
