Hofic packages - Failure to install

Since December 2006, I have been automatically sent 2 updates each day. They
are msxml4-KB925672-enu.exe (Hotfix Package 4.80 MB) and
msxml4-KB927978-enu.exe (Hotfix Package 5.36 MB). They install as normal,
but the next day I get them again - and again. I tried following Microsoft
advice on 'How to troubleshoot the problem if the update was installed'. I
got to Method 3 and put the PC into Safe Mode. However when I tried to run
each of the files, I had the message 'Windows Installer Service could not be
accessed....This can occur if you are running Windows in Safe Mode....Contact
your support personnel for assistance'. So I did and the useless
'professional' who answered my query simply referred me to this site. MS have
no active technicians do they?

Could someone please tell me what to do now to stop the 2 update files being
repeatedly sent? Since December I have had no other updates and fear that
they are in fact blocking others being sent in the usual way.

Very many thanks,

I tried to help someone else who was having the same symptom
with the second update but the diagnosis was incomplete.

See if the install logs have the same message in them about
msxml4.dll being in use (or any of the modules which need updating
being in use). Is your machine an HP too? Is that same hpcmpmgr
service mentioned in the log? Why can't it be stopped? If it still
happens after that service is stopped find out what else is blocking
the copying. Etc.

Trainees? <lol> Can you start that service in Safe Mode anyway?
BTW are you trying to install the update manually then or still use WU?
The latter would require a service but I wasn't aware of a service
being required just to do an install; nevertheless I don't think that
you are prevented from restarting things which are stopped just
because you chose to start in safe mode.
