Hi.
I wish to by a HP laptop, it comes with Vista home premium. (OEM verson)
Can I upgrad to Ultimate after instal? Or is it smarter to by a Ultimate
verson in the shop, and not use the key that comes with the laptop? That key
maybe can be uset on another computer?

What do the uppgrad cost?

Sorry my bad English. Hope you understand what I mean.

If you do not intend to use BitLocker, and you don't fax from your computer
or have any objection to buying a third party fax program, why do you think
you need Vista Ultimate?

I came from Vista HP to Ultimate on this HP laptop. I don't know about this
transferring of keys for the OEM version to another machine. You'll have to
make some inquiries with HP and MS.

However, I do know that if you upgrade to Ultimate, you have broken the
software support warrantee with HP with no support from HP. You will not
have broken the hardware warrantee.

Vista HP was a mistake for me, and I needed Ultimate or one of the higher
versions of the O/S to do my .Net development work.

Hold it! With great respect, let's not forget Ultimate features like:

Multilingual User Interface (important for non English speakers)
Subsystem for Unix Applications (important to me :-)
Remote Desktop access
Licensed for Virtualisation
IIS (v.important for developers)
Full Mobility Center (not cut-down, like in Home Prem)
P2P Meeting Place
Active Directory client
Client-side caching (important for Laptops)
image-based backup and restore
EFS (non-Bitlocker encryption)
support dual processor
Network Access Protection (NAP) Client

It would still be good to hear what features Henning specifically wants from
Ultimate, to work out if he really needs it.

But I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss Ultimate as merely "fax and
Bitlocker" :-)

Best MVP-fraternal regards
Andrew

You cannot use the product key on any machine other than the one that the
key shipped with.
