Hotfix fails to replace key files

I have a Microsoft Windows XP Professional machine with SP1 installed that I
am attempting to get all the latest security updates on.

However, when I try to install Hotfix KB885835, two of the key files I need
it to update (ntkrnlpa.exe and ntoskrnl.exe) do not get updated to the
proper version.

When I look in the log file for the hotfix I see two lines that say:

c:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe is in the list of oem drivers...skipping
copy!
c:\windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe is in the list of oem drivers...skipping
copy!

What could be causing this and is there some workaround I can do to get
these files updated?

The company where I work (which shall remain nameless) requires all machines
be updated to a certain security level by a set date and this problem is
preventing me from doing that. The tech support people have thrown their
hands up and are suggesting that I need to reinstall the operating system
and start from scratch. Please don't tell me that is my only option.

TIA

Following is the entire log file in case that is helpful.

I did what was suggested here, but ntkrnlpa.exe and ntoskrnl.exe are still
out of date. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree, but why would these two
files be in the list of oem drivers and what can I do to get them
overwritten? I tried the /o option when I ran the patch also but that didn't
help.
