Hotfixes

How does one obtain a MS Hotfix...like ones listed in a MS Knowledge base
article? Can someone explain that procedure to me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The procedure to obtain a hotfix mentioned in a
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article is outlined
in the Knowledge Base Article itself. In other
words, you'll need to Contact Microsoft to obtain
a hotfix.

Two ways:

1. Call Microsoft up, plead you case and MAYBE they will give you
access to the hotfix. Maybe not. They are know to say the "fix"
doesn't apply to your problem.

2. Go here and find all kinds of hotfixes ready for the taking.

Expect the usual pouring of cold water on anything I say from the
fanboy crowd that always acts like a bunch of old ladies. The files
are the SAME.

Before installing any hotfix regardless where you get it from first
set up a Restore point, just in case.

Go to the site below and they'll email you a time limited link
to a password protected file. You should get a reply
in a few hours or 1 day.

Have the KB article number and give them a valid email address.

It's that simple.

Have you tried clicking on the link they give you in KB articles? I
just tried one and you get a page with every possible contact you could
want for Microsoft from the President down but nothing specific to Hot
Fixes.

Guessing isn't good enough.

And suppose it's wanted for a computer that you bought with it
installed and so OEM -- contact the manufacturer or Microsoft? What's
the chance of the OEM tech support knowing of the hotfix?
