I peaked (subscribe-wise to the best of my recollection) a little more than a dozen nttp groups (including those on the Annex Café
and another private server) - down to 4 now. Some I miss, others completely forgotten - it's almost like they never existed.

Hi, Steve.
My ISP is Grande Communications, here in San Marcos, TX, USA. They include
a news server (Giganews, I think) in my monthly subscription price. All (I
think) of the thousands of microsoft.public.* newsgroups are still
available.
But traffic has fallen off so much that now I subscribe to only 3 of those
NGs (m.p.outlook, m.p.w.64-bit.general and m.p.w.live.mail.desktop), rather
than the couple dozen that I frequented before last year. In fact, I'm down
to only 9 total NGs now. And I sure miss all those others! The most active
one is alt.windows7.general - and a couple on Annex Café, thanks to Winston.
It's good to see your sig now and then. ;<)

Doing well, mac, thanks. I hope you are well, too.
I meant that when Microsoft shut down the groups on their servers,
they issues the Remove Group messages from their server as part of the
shut down. Some nntp servers accept and process those, many do not.
Some admins manually update their groups lists for non-propagating
groups. So, very few servers still carry these groups.
