Hotmail problem

When I try to access WLM I get a message that my Hotmail is overloaded and I
can't proceed without sending my text phone number and then I will receive a
code to unlock the account. I do not have a cell phone and don't need one.
I would like to delete the Hotmail account but can't because the same
message comes up. I never use the account but assume it has been receiving
spam.

Are you seeing a message in Windows Live Mail that you need to enter a text phone number ?
- if so, is the Hotmail account configured as Pop3 or Http ?
- if Pop3 is your Hotmail account (hotmail.com, live.com, msn.com etc) configured in WLM to leave messages on the server ?
or
Are you seeing a message in the Hotmail web UI (hotmail.com or mail.live.com) when you attempt to access the account or Inbox ?
- If not the web UI, can you access your account at hotmail.com or mail.live.com or account.live.com

Note that this newsgroup exists only on news servers that do not honor
the remove group message. It is no longer originated on a Microsoft
news server.
Help and support for Windows Live Mail (downloaded from
http://download.live.com) can be found here -
http://windowslivehelp.com/product.aspx?productid=15

Help and Support for Windows Live Hotmail can be found at
http://windowslivehelp.com/product.aspx?productid=1

I've never heard of "overloaded" -- however, the instructions about
unlocking the account sounds like your account has been blocked due to
potential compromise.
Sign into Hotmail at www.hotmail.com and I suspect that you'll get a
message with more details about the blocked account.
The account has likely been blocked for one of two reasons – someone
has tried to log in too many times with an incorrect password or
Microsoft detected activity on the account that indicated that the
account was compromised – that is, someone was using the account to
send out spam.
This post is the one you want for a blocked account:
http://windowslivehelp.com/solution....f-145b951dcb41
*
You need to go to #3 if you cannot access the account.
That sends you here:
https://account.live.com/resetpassword.aspx
*
Follow the instructions and links there. I’ve seen the reset request
denied because the account was originally opened with a different
location (zip code or full address) and also because the name used to
open the account was fake originally. Support needs to be careful
about restoring access to the rightful owner as there are countless
attempts to use Support to actually steal the accounts.
*
If, after receiving a response from Support with the password reset,
or you receive no response from Support, and you still cannot access
the account, please post to the Windows Live forum for Account issues:
http://windowslivehelp.com*
*
Assuming you are successful, immediately after logging in, go to your
account information and update all of your security information –
security questions, alternate email address, cell phone, trusted
computer, etc. to make recovery easy in the future.

Doing well, mac, thanks. I hope you are well, too.
I meant that when Microsoft shut down the groups on their servers,
they issues the Remove Group messages from their server as part of the
shut down. Some nntp servers accept and process those, many do not.
Some admins manually update their groups lists for non-propagating
groups. So, very few servers still carry these groups.

Hi, Steve.

My ISP is Grande Communications, here in San Marcos, TX, USA. They include
a news server (Giganews, I think) in my monthly subscription price. All (I
think) of the thousands of microsoft.public.* newsgroups are still
available.

But traffic has fallen off so much that now I subscribe to only 3 of those
NGs (m.p.outlook, m.p.w.64-bit.general and m.p.w.live.mail.desktop), rather
than the couple dozen that I frequented before last year. In fact, I'm down
to only 9 total NGs now. And I sure miss all those others! The most active
one is alt.windows7.general - and a couple on Annex Café, thanks to Winston.

It's good to see your sig now and then. ;<)

I peaked (subscribe-wise to the best of my recollection) a little more than a dozen nttp groups (including those on the Annex Café
and another private server) - down to 4 now. Some I miss, others completely forgotten - it's almost like they never existed.

It is nice to see you, too, RC.
Now that we've completely hijacked the thread. :-)
The Microsoft.public groups are available on Easynews and Newsguy,
too. I assume that they would be on the bigger nntp providers, while
not being carried by the smaller ISP nntp servers. There are fewer and
fewer of those around these days. It would seem that most traffic
originated on the Microsoft servers.
