How do I turn off this hourly chime that happens every hour on the hour? I
can't find an option to turn it off anywhere.

What hourly chime? If you want assistance, you'll need to provide a
bit more information, such as what application you're using to produce
the chime. Then perhaps someone who is familiar with that specific
application can assist you.

I'm not using any application other than what came with the computer. I
thought the chime was something that came with windows vista. The sound
itself is similar to the default sound scheme for vista so I was assuming it
was a windows setting. The only clock apps i have are the computer's clock
and the clock gadget that came with vista, both of which have no opption for
an alarm (that I know of or can find). Sorry if I was a little vague but I
thought this was some kind of standard setting.

There is no hourly chime in Vista, you must be referring to a thirdparty
application.

I may suggest the following. Go to Control Panel>>Hardware and Sound>>Change
System Sounds and examine all system sounds for a possible association with
this periodicity.

You may save this default configuration (schema) to restore it later and
after that you can try to change some of the suspicious sounds to a very
easily recognizable sound that you will be able to immediately detect.

Then listened if you hear that sound instead of the chime. Should you be
able to find out what the culprit is, just change that system sound to
"none."

It's one of the calendar gadgets you can get for the Sidebar. Can't
remember which one now, but it has a checkbox to silence the alarm.
Unfortunately it doesn't remember the checkbox setting, so each time you
reboot it starts chiming again.

Damn nuisance. Uninstall it.

That's what it must have been. I didn't find out which, I just unistalled
all gadgets and reset the defalt ones and now it's gone. I thing I was going
down the wrong path looking for a CLOCK option, I didn't realize a calender
gadget might have been causing the chime. Thanks!

I tried that originally but couldn't find whatever made that sound. That was
one of the reasons I was confused - it sounded like a windows sound but
apparently it wasn't. Thanks though.
