I have a HP M9200t running Home premium 64 bit that has a "HP Easy Backup"
button on the front panel. When pressed, it runs a HP backup application.
Does anyone know how to replace this application start with another program?

Just install your desired backup program and don't use HP's! Uninstall it if
you don't want it!

Would you like to read your own post as you probably haven't and re-write it
so it makes a smidgeon of sense?

The point I'm asking, is how to interface to the HP Easy Backup button. Not
the actual application. If I can reprogram/assign the button to do
something else.

OK. So, I'm half asleep, sorry.

I would like to start a different program other than HP's backup program
when you press the front panel button. (HP has a physical button on the
computer's front panel)
Can I reprogram/assign this button to do something else?

How's that? better?

Did you check with HP's website for details on how to customize
Easy Backup to run another backup application?

Yes, much better. Now we know what you really want. ;-) HP has a "hot keys"
type of program that comes preinstalled on their computers. You will need
to look in its options to see if you can change the presets on the buttons.
No, I don't know the name of the program because I don't have an HP system
sitting here right now. Look in your Start/Applications menu and/or your
computer manual.

Couldn't find anything about it. I did find a post on one of their boards
at HP without any responses to it.

You need to ask HP about that. Not likely anyone here will know your
answer.

I had a problem with my button where it wouldn't allow me to backup, this also goes for you because you want to customize it. I used visual Studio 2008 Pro, but express should work as well. I made an application that would start my backup program of choice(Nero backitup) i made it in C#, and the code goes like this

Process.Start(@"C:\Path to application");

and i published the program to the "Release" folder. i then went and found the application executable in the bin/release folder under my project folder in the Visual studio project directory (usually in "my documents") I then took the application executable (not the vshost.exe) and renamed it HpEasyBackup.exe. i went into C:\hp\HPEZBTN and overwrote the HpEasyBackup.exe that was there. now when i push the button, it runs the exe that I put in there. this can be used to customize it anyway you want. you can make a custom windows forms app that allows to to select options for backing up. if you want anymore help just email me at , and ill get back to you asap.
