HP Health check/IE7/default browser

I find IE7 unusable and have installed another browser as default.
Unfortunately, the HP Health Check utility uses Windows Help and Support for
some downloads, & that seems to only use IE7.
1. It is refusing to download an important security update because of my
security settings for IE7
2. it won't tell me what security settings are responsible; and
3. it doesn't even indicate where its trying to download from so I can use
my default browser to manually download and install the security update.

The only thing I can think of which might work is setting all security
settings in IE7 to minimum. Any other ideas, eg how to get Windows Help &
Support to use the default browser?

Don't use HP Health Check. It is an unnecessary process among the many
others so "thoughtfully" preinstalled by HP. It has nothing to do with
Windows.

For Windows updates, use Windows Updates! The best setting (if you have
broadband) is to download the updates and notify you so you can see what
they are and make a choice about installation.

I do, but HP Health Check will find & install updates for HP related
software, which Windows Update doesn't do.

Because HP demand all sorts of unnecessary private information which they
have no right to know.

Well, I very much doubt that HP Health Check is useful and provides anything
you can't manually do yourself, but if you want to use it and it isn't
doing what you want, then contact HP Tech Support for help with their
software. This isn't a Windows issue. If you don't want to contact HP Tech
Support, then switch your default browser to IE7. Just because IE is set as
default doesn't mean you ever have to use it.

And what is so important about the HP software that - IF an update
ever was written - you would need to have the update?
