HP Laserjet 1012 in Vista - Unsupported Personallity: PCL

I recently bought a Dell XPS PC with Vista installed. It autodetected my
printer, but did not have the exact driver for it. I installed a the Laserjet
1015 driver instead (being the closest on the list).

It will print ok for 2-4 print jobs or pages but then will print a single
page with the words: Unsupported Personallity: PCL

My Windows Update shows a HP 1012 driver available, but it always fails when
trying to install.

Addionally, I went to HP's site for a driver, but they do not have a Vista
driver available (and nor will they develop one) from their site. They refer
to the driver that comes with Vista...

Anyone have ideas on how to get my printer to work right again?

I don't know whether that information solves your problem, but it's
something to note just in case. I thought HP had the drivers for the 1012
available. Are you sure about the lack of that driver?

Michael,

Fair Disclosure- I really don't like HP printer software! so take this
advise for what it may be worth.

Sometimes I can get HP printers to behave by changing the print processor
being used.

Right click the printer
Properties
Advanced tab
Print Processor button

Make note of what is highlighted here, in both columns, so you can go back
if necessary.
Try Winprint and RAW as your selection, go back if that doesn't help.
(PCL is a printer control language. If the printer doesn't support PCL and
PCL commands are sent to it you get that error)

In desperation you can try any other selections you may have, but most
likely you will want RAW for which ever you choose.
