HP pavilion internet keyboard buttons not working

I have updated to SP2 and cannot configure the buttons on the top of the
keyboard. They do not appear in the Keyboard utility in the Control Panel.
When I use to doulbe click that Icon, I could see three things, Speed -
Hardware - Buttons. Now all I see is Speed - Hardware.

I have done eveything short of editing the registry. Does anyone know of a
patch that fixes this ? I have reinstalled the driver 3 times, and
uninstalled 3 times, both in Safe mode and regular mode. I have reinstalled
the orginal driver 3 times as well.

The only driver that appears in the keyboard is the generic driver Compaq
PS2 Keyboard (2k-3). Though a standard install of the the mulitmedia
keyboard driver is always sucessfull, it never appears in the Hardware
Manager or in the Keyboard utiltiy in the Control panel.

I am having exactly the same problem. I can't seem to find anything anywhere.

When I removed the last update things went back to normal. I checked for
any driver updates and nothing is helping.

I don't really want to remove the update again.

Have either of you been able to solve this as of yet? I have tried two
online chats with HP support and both answers they gave me did not
work.

So far, no good. I have gone into my registry and tried to find an HKEY
Local Machine entry to make a modification, but did not have any luck
finding the right key......grrrr!

May if you two and others with this problem go to this link: and start a
troubleshooting ticket with Microsoft----they may get off their butts and
create a fix for this. I have pasted the recommendations they gave me and
told them I believe this is a Microsoft problem and to quit palming it off
to HP. All of our Keyboards worked fine until SP2....that's MS's fault, no
our Keyboard manufacture's. Use Miranda's email as a reference, in fact,
maybe even contact her to so they same person gets an email on the same
subject from many people.

Finding and using the Windows Update support link is difficult. It's tucked
away in several pages after clicking on help and support at Windows Update.
It's obscure now!

https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...x=16&y=15&as=1

Hi Miranda,

I uninstalled the KBD driver, then installed the one you directed me to,
still no buttons.

My computer has worked fine with this keyboard with my Compaq Presario for
two years. It came from a friend who owned a 500 series HP Pavilion.

Now that I have decided to install SP2, which I think is a nice product, the
buttons are gone.

My keyboard is an HP Pavilion Internet Multimedia Keyboard P/N 5187-0341
Serial# SC0227012434

Thanks,

Lee

The suggestion I got from a chat session with an HP tech was to do a
system recovery from the hidden partition. Of course this restores all
programs back to what was initially installed on my Pavilion when I
purchased it. I'd rather live without the button definitions than go
through that hassle. Volume controls work and the eject buttons for my
CD/DVD drives work.

And the button tab in the keyboard control panel applet was there two
weeks ago before I installed the MS updates.

Some must know how to edit the registry, I think that's where the resolution
is hiding.

Hi Lee

I think I have it ... not sure which post you have replies on so I will post
on both

Ok first .... go to the control panel ... add/remove programs ... click on
updates .... scroll down to KB908531 ... remove it .... restart your computer
..... after restart go to start ... all programs ... pc tools and help ...
application recovery ... select driver installation ... click next ... check
the box for your multimedia keyboard ... click install ... restart your
computer ... then you can set up your keyboard again ... after that you can
install that update again and everything should be fine

Let me know how it goes

Michele

sorry forgot some things ... you must reconfigure your keyboard buttons
before you reinstall the update ... once you reinstall the buttons section
will be missing again ... also before you do anything ( reconfiguring or
reinstalling) make sure you have the updated drivers for your keyboard ....
ok thats it ... good luck and keep me posted
