Recently my HP OfficeJet L7680 froze up while scanning and wouldn't work
even after rebooting. It has worked for over a year.
I did the obvious - downloaded the latest drives from HP and got the Fatal
Error at 94% . I wrote HP and have since had TEN emails from them
suggesting all sorts of ways to fix this problem.
I turned off the firewall and antivirus, registered and unregistered DLLs,
muddled around in the registry, run the L3.bat file, run an HP cleaner and
the Microsft cleaner, removed all HP programs using control Panel,
reinstalled (Fatal error every time) about 100 times and rebooted every time
using the original CD, and the downloaded full and basic drivers.
It is supposed to be being escalated to Advanced Technical SUpport at HP but
I haven't heard back from them in a couple of days.

Using Add printer in Control Panel I was able to add the printer using the
..inf file in one of the temporary folders the installation created. But I
am unable to scan to OCR using any of the scan programs that come with
Office or Vista. Webscan using IE and the IP address also has no OCR scan.

A search on Google found many people with all kinds of HP printers are
having the exact same problem, Fatal Error at 94%, but none of them has a
solution that works.

Mine worked for over a year - now I can't reinstall it. No new hardware or
software was added recently.
Did anyone out there ever solve this problem and get the Hp Solution Center
to work again?
How?

Mich
