I have also done a tech support text chat with HP with a North American
person, yippee!! We all know how difficult it is to work with some people
from overseas support.

Ok, they suggested everything I already did-----no big help there. The tech
support person was very good at what she did----but though she may know more
commands to type into RUN then I do, she could not help any more than I
could help myself.

Sure--I could go buy another keyboard an install it's driver and probably
have my button options appear again for that keyboard. But, I like this
keyboard, it's rugged, it's pearl color, easier to see then the black
keyboards and most important of all-------it worked before SP2 came out!
argh! So if any MVP's in this newsgroup want to really help 1000's of us
who are having this problem due to SP2, please do your best to find the
answer. I scoured the MS Knowledge base and found nothing----but we all know
there is an answer. Someone out there will find it.... and boy! Will you be
a hero!

Thanks,

Lee

Lee;
No one will be able to help without more details such as:
Make and model of keyboard.
Exactly what button options do not work.
What drivers you are using and if you have tried others.
Are there newer keyboard drivers released since SP-2 was released.
Etc.

You may need to get another keyboard if HP can not support their keyboard
with SP-2.

Lastly, your post seems to limit your request to MVPs.
There are many that are not MVPs that may also be able to answer your
questions.

Not knowing where else you may have posted or what you've tried:

Short answer:

HP's Share-to-Web software - Fix (Line 383, Right)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use: Download the .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want
to right click and use Save Target As). Double-click the vbs file. You will
be prompted when the script is done.

Long answer:

(1) Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install
security update MS06-015 (15 Apr-06)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/918165

<QP>
.. Unable to access special folders like "My Documents" or "My Pictures".
.. Microsoft Office applications may stop responding when you attempt to save
or open Office files in the "My Documents" folder.
.. Office files in the "My Documents" folder are not able to open in
Microsoft Office.
.. Opening a file through an application's File / Open menu causes the
program to stop responding .
.. Typing an address into Internet Explorer's address bar has no effect.
.. Right-clicking on a file and selecting Send To has no effect.
.. Clicking on the plus (+) sign beside a folder in Windows Explorer has no
effect.
.. Some third-party applications stop responding when opening or saving data
in the "My Documents" folder.
</QP>

The Registry edit referenced in Resolutions section of 918615 above can be
implemented by downloading:

HP's Share-to-Web software - Fix (Line 383, Right)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use: Download the .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want
to right click and use Save Target As). Double-click the vbs file. You will
be prompted when the script is done.

(2) Mike Reavey[MSFT] suggests here
http://blogs.technet.com/msrc/archiv...18/425473.aspx that older
NVIDIA graphics card drivers may be a factor in applications ceasing to
respond after installing MS06-015. Check your computer manufacturer's Tech
Support pages for NVIDIA driver updates or start here:
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

My model is KB-0228 ... when I go into the control panel and click on
keyboard the only options I have are speed and hardware ... no buttons ... so
none of my quick launch buttons are there ... if I remove the update ...
everything goes back to normal ... I was having a problem with my ie bar but
I downloaded a fix for that
Thanks
Michele

Hi Lee

I think I have it ... not sure which post you have replies on so I will post
on both

Ok first .... go to the control panel ... add/remove programs ... click on
updates .... scroll down to KB908531 ... remove it .... restart your computer
..... after restart go to start ... all programs ... pc tools and help ...
application recovery ... select driver installation ... click next ... check
the box for your multimedia keyboard ... click install ... restart your
computer ... then you can set up your keyboard again ... after that you can
install that update again and everything should be fine

Let me know how it goes

sorry forgot some things ... you must reconfigure your keyboard buttons
before you reinstall the update ... once you reinstall the buttons section
will be missing again ... also before you do anything ( reconfiguring or
reinstalling) make sure you have the updated drivers for your keyboard ....
ok thats it ... good luck and keep me posted
