(http?) network goes down on regular basis (Vista 32 Home Premium)

Hi Group,

I tried to google around for this problem, but I had trouble finding the
right searchwords, so let me try in here. :-)

I have a modern computer that runs Vista32 just fine.
I keep an eye on this group, so think I am a lucky vista user
considering the number of problems posted here. ;-)

But my network goes down at at random moments (Random for me).
I cannot surf the web anymore.

What I checked so far:
- Ping
I can still ping outside computers (eg www.google.com) from commandprompt.

- Other comps on my network
I tested if my office network had similar problems, but no: Only my
Vista box.

So my network is still up, but both Firefox and IE cannot reach anything.

- firewall
I expect this is not a firewall problem, since shutting down my firewall
(McAfee) doesn't make a difference, and I didn't change a thing in
there, but still I have no connectivity (http).

- Eventlog
I searched in my eventlogs, but I am unsure what to look for. I didn't
see things that attracked my attention. But I am not a Vista expert.
The log DOES show errors notices AFTER the network went down, which is
perfectly understandable.

- A little googling
I found some articles on the web complaining about the new tcpip stack
software in Vista that gave troubles, but most were concerned with
speed, not total failure.


Only rebooting helps.


Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Hi,

Check for an updated driver file from the nic manufacturer. Some are having
trouble with the IPv6 protocol that Vista uses in addition to the IPv4
standard.

Hi Rick,

After a little more serious searching in the errorlog I found this:

"Driver has encountered an internal error"
for my yukonwhl card (onboard on motherboard).

Lots of them.

I am going to look for a better driver now.
Strange thing is that WU DID update this driver earlier, but the problem
stays.
So I was under the impression WU had received an updated driver.
Confusing stuff. :-/

My problem is similar than the originator, except that everything looks
normal from the vista machine. I can go to web sites, etc. Just seems that
whenever my Vista machine is left alone for a period of time, the network on
it goes dormant.

e.g I cannot access it via RDP, Ping etc.

But as soon as I touch the mouse, Network is back on, I can ping the Vista
machine, I can connect to RDP. etc. There are no significant message in Event
Viewer, Firewall does allow the connection. Power scheme (laptop) keeps
everything alive when connected to power source etc. I don't see any nic
card error on my Broadcom card. I'm at a loss as to why I can't access my
machine after a while.
FYI, my aironet access point says the computer is connected when this
happens. If I force a re-association to the AP, sometime it will re-enable
networking to the card.
