Hi Kate,
The reason that you cannot access the Windows Update site
is because the Blaster worm will NOT LET you go there.
Here is the real way to get to the blaster worm and stomp
him out...
Go to
http://www.symantec.com which is the Norton site
and click on the left hand side of the screen the #3
option about the blaster worm which is "Download the
Removal Tool" and follow all of the instructions that
they give, especially the one regarding the "System
Restore" option inside Win XP. There is a link to
download the removal tool in the middle of the discussion
regarding how to run this thing. There is also a link to
a discussion of how to Disable/Enable System Resotre in
Windows XP. It works really GREAT.
After you have done this, you will then be able to link
to the Windows Update site and download the patches that
will keep this thing from coming back and biting you
again...
