Hyperlink Multi Window Opening Problem

I have a Toshiba laptop that is only a few months old which is running Vista.

Whenever I click on a Hyperlink either within an email or as part of an on
line form, this opens up in excess of 40 plus windows.

I read a solution to this on your site stating that if the following

"C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe" OCInstallReinstallOE

was pasted into the start/search area and then restarting my pc, this should
fix the problem.

I did this but I still get the same problem.

Please can you suggest an alternative or tell me if you think I am not
pasting in the right place or if I have incorrectly typed the following

"C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe" OCInstallReinstallOE

I would very much appreciate any help anyone out there can give me on this.

Many thanks,

Hi Shawn,

Many thanks for your very thorough explanation on how to stop hyperlink
opening multi windows.

I checked the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto and it is set up correctly as shown
in your screen shot.

I have also set up the mail again making windows mail the default exactly as
you instructed.

Unfortunatley however, my problem still remains with between 41 and 60
windows opening when I click on a hyperlink within an email.

Do you have any other suggestions for me.

Ok Paul

Try taking ownership of the "MailTo" key in the left pane of regedit.
You can see how in the second method (step 3) at this link
