You have posted in "microsoft.public.windowsupdate" about a piece of
hardware you have bought and the only hints at the actual problem and
anything done you have donbe to troubleshoot it are:
-- Store´n´Go from Verbatim
-- Windows XP
-- Runs well on Office PC but not laptop
-- Verbatim says it should be run without software.
The device you have bought (a thumb drive) is basically memory with a USB
interface with your computer. Any plug-n-play capable operating system
should see it as a "drive" when you insert it into a functional USB port.
What you have left out is:
-- Windows XP "What"? Home edition? Professional Edition? Updated with
SP1? SP2? No Service Packs?
-- What software and updates do you have installed?
-- What namme brand/model of laptop and have you contacted them?
-- What does happen when you plug in the device? Any messages? Anything in
the Event Log?
-- Have you scanned for viruses/trojans/worms lately with an antivirus
software NOT installed on your system right now?
-- Have you scanned for spyware/adware/malware with several good
antipspyware applications?
-- Did you (in fact) install some sort of software in order to try and get
it to work?
