Sometimes it's just easier to let it go... If there's a viable solution and
it's faster and easier than debugging it is indeed hard to pass up the
debugging but it's time savings are certainly worth it. An example might be
that I know I can remove TCP/IP, reboot, clear the reg entries, reboot, and
re-add TCP/IP and it will reset the WinSock. Instead? I use a handy dandy
third party tool or the command line with XP SP2 to do such. I don't even
worry about why this is corrupted if malware scans prove it's clean. I keep
multiple drive clones on DVD and network storage, when I break something
(and I do) I don't worry about it, I just slam the latest image back over
the drive and in just a few minutes I'm up and running on that PC again.
It's not as fun, nor as "geeky" as it used to be but it's a heck of a lot
more simple and a lot quicker than it used to be too.
