I am trying to install IE6 SP1. I downloaded the set up file. When I try to
install I get a message at 87% complete saling it was unable to install all
components. Set up will close and I should try again.
I have ME. I have Norton anti-virus, but have disabled it. I also tried
running the setup to install after running msconfig and selecting on Load
Static VxDs.
Am I ever going to be able to upgrade to IE 6? If so, how?

Thanks

Are you attempting to install IE6 SP1 via Windows Update?

Was IE6 SP1 ever installed on the WinME machine?

Did you ever reinstall Windows? If so, did you first uninstall IE6?

Macyspop,

If you answered NO to the questions by PA Bear, then do this :

Show hidden files, folders, and system files
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it IEBak.
Navigate to -

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Uninstall Information

Move all of the contents of Uninstall Information to the IEBak folder.
Run the IE installation, if you've downloaded the full setup package,
from Safe Mode.
If you haven't downloaded the full setup package, here's how :
http://www.broomeman.com/support/wsiedown.html
Now run it from Safe Mode : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/180902

If IE installs you can delete the IEBak folder and it's contents.
IF IE does NOT install, move all of the files back from IEBak to their
original location.
