I experience many crashes in IE 7.0, & this occurs at various web sites.
This also consistently occurs when I run IE without any add-ons! The details
I have recevied from the event viewer in vista are as follows:

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.6000.16546, time stamp
0x46c64caf, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp
0x4549bdf8, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset 0x000aa0fb, process id
0xd4c, application start time 0x01c81e986c56e553.

I'd be grateful if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this issue, or
is this just a known bug in Vista Ultimate?

On recommendation I can think of is the usual, reset your Internet Explorer
settings. Open Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced (tab) > under
'Reset Internet Explorer settings' > click Reset.

Are you experiencing these crashes in other accounts on the system? Did you
install any software recently that might have interfered with browser?
Antivirus Utilities could be a factor here, try disabling it to see if the
crashes stop occurring.

Ultimate 64 has the 32 bit and the 64 bit version of IE.
Use the 32 bit version of IE and you won't have any problem.
