IE 7 upate problems / queries ?

Hi all, I have a problem with IE7 and updates. A month or 2 ago I downloaded
and updated my PC from IE6 to IE7 Beta and everything was fine. Twice a week
I check the windows update screen for any updates. Yesterday I did this to
find that there was an update for IE7. Why would this be when I have it
already installed ? So I decided to install it in case it was a newer version
only for it to cause major hangups. I starting installation as i was leaving
work and presumed it would be finished in the morning but only to find that
it was still installing. It was after crashing/freezing the PC and I had to
uninstall IE7 back to IE6 and re-install IE7 why is this happening ?
