IE 7 in Vista won't load .swf files unless called from html?

I create Flash websites and own Flash 8 and have the newest version of Flash
Player installed on my Vista Dell laptop.

Vista IE 7 won't display Flash files UNLESS they are loaded from a html
document and it is driving me crazy.

For example my flash file is called index.swf. On my Windows XP laptop
running IE 7 I can type http://mysite.com/index.swf and it will load the
Flash file just fine.

If I type the same http://mysite.com/index.swf on my Vista IE 7 it won't
load the Flash file. However, it will load fine if I type
http://mysite.com/index.html which has the flash file embedded.

On Mozilla in Vista it works just fine so I know it is a problem with
Vista's Version of IE 7.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I have multiple Flash files called from
the main swf file and sometimes I just want to view the ONE swf file on the
net and not load the whole site.

What is says is "error on page" and if I have scripting on it says "A
Runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to Debug? Line: 1 Error: Invalid
Character"

Thanks
Lara

Here it works fine.
Try this:
http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe..._shell/FMA.swf
it works fine!

Hi,
Some possible solutions...

Internet Options> Advanced
"Allow active content to run in files on My Computer"
Try this unchecked (default) and checked.

A possible solution from the Adobe support forums
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforu...243464#4480396

[From bellington]
Navigate to:
C:\windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil9b.exe
Run the .exe and this will run an updater. After running it my Flash
problems were gone. This seems to fix most Flash problems Vista users are
getting.

Hope this helps,

Thanks.

I unchecked the Allow Active Content to run and it worked??? That is so
weird and extremely annoying. I need to run active content on my computer
because there are apps I use that run Active X like the photo company I get
my prints from.

Weird that in IE 7 on XP I have it checked and it still loads the .swf

MS's Active X business is driving me nuts. Luckily I convinced my Exchange
Admin's to apply the Active X patch to their exchange server because I
couldn't even load MS Outlook Webmail on Vista IE7.

MS is getting more like Big Brother every day. It is one thing to secure a
program and it is another to secure it so much that it is no longer
functional LOL.

Thanks

Hi,
I haven't heard of any problems caused by the procedure at
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforu...243464#4480396
You might give it a try. You may be able to recheck "Allow active content to
run..."

Thanks but it isn't a permissions issue. I am a Net Admin and I reset all the
permissions on the entire C:\ to give me Full Control as an administrator. I
don't need Windows to "protect" me from my self as I have been doing an good
job of it for the past 20 years.

Thanks though.

Cheers,
Lara
