IE 7 won't play certain video links?

Hi,
When I try to click on a video link in Internet Explorer such as a short
..mpg movie or a short .wmv movie all I get is moved to another page that is
blank white and the video will not play. I can play my sample videos that
came with Windows Vista in Windows Media Player and I can watch You Tube but
with certain video links like .mpg and .wmv movies they just kick me to a
blank white page and nothing happens no video playing? Internet Explorer and
Windows Media Player are already set to play all the possible default media
types they can. Why can't anyone in these discussions let Microsoft know
about this bug in Internet Explorer 7?

Hi,

They may be being blocked by your IE security settings or (more likely) your
internet security software. These latter are notorious for this.

Hi,
My IE settings for security are medium-high and my privacy settings are
medium and all the multimedia stuff seems to be appropriately checked and or
unchecked where necessary. I am using McAfee Internet Suite so I don't know
how that could be blocking videos? This seems to be a problem that tons of
users are having no matter what their IE security settings are or what
security suite they may be using. I was told by one user that this is a bug
in Internet Explorer that has a very diffucult fix but I couldn't follow his
fix for this. Microsoft really needs to respond with a fix for this problem
so many users are having the same problem.

I have seen this occur when one installs Spyware Blaster. It places so many
black listed entries into the IE7 security and privacy area that it breaks
some videos. If I install it, I can no longer play video's from Fox news.

I've also experienced the same with Spyware Blaster.

Just an addendum to my other poet.

By using a hosts file you may run across the same problem. When doing so I
can not view videos from WABC News or Fox News.

CBS News, CNN News and MSNBC News videos work fine.

So folks - not all web sites are created equal and likely, more than a mere
handful, do not follow good programming practices and standards.

We probably agree more than we disagree,
it's just those times when either of us are quite
sure of ourselves, that we have conflict. :-)

I've found that just unchecking the "Restricted Sites"
protection in Spyware Blaster solves the earlier problem.
However, on two Vista machines that have Spyware Blaster
installed, when I removed the "Restricted Sites" protection,
upon opening up IE the next time, IE froze. I actually had to
do a hard shutdown. I'm not sure why it happened. After
rebooting, all was fine.

Great point. Using specialized hosts file can be useful in
blocking ads and shady sites, but quite often they can also
cause browsing problems.

The problem that I don't like is that after installing/uninstalling Spyware
Blaster, thousands of entries are left in the IE7 blacklist/exclude lists.
You would have to highlight, and delete, each one individually. It would
take many hours to get back to where you were before you installed SWB.
