IE 8 will not open correctly

We have three user accounts on the family computer. After updating to
Internet Explorer 8 one of these accounts has a difficult time accessing the
internet as it normally did. I almost always get the message Your last
browsing session closed unexpectedly. Would you like to restore your last
session, or go to your home page.
No matter which I choose I end up with a white page.

What happens if you run in No Add-ons mode?

It sounds like you've probably got an add-on loading for that account that
is causing problems.

One of my customers had this problem yesterday. I had to uninstall the
Google and MSN toolbars, uninstall IE8, restart the computer, load
Firefox and use it to download the full install of IE8 to the users hard
drive, installed IE8 as administrator, and then removed Firefox. After
that IE8 worked fine.

Try running IE8 with add-ons disabled.

Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No
Add-ons) to start IE8 without any add-ons. Try using the browser and see if
the same problem arises.

If the problem does not occur again, start IE8 normally, go to Tools (if the
menu bar does not appear, hit the Alt key on the keyboard) > Manage Add-ons.
Disable all the add-ons under 'Toolbars and Extensions'. Enable each add-on
one at each time and see if the problem occurs again. Once it occurs again
after enabling an add-on, you have nailed the culprit.
