I do not download anything but the necessary on my pc. A few days ago I tried
to close IE7 and a pop-up came and said my pc was infected by IE virus and
the only way to get rid of it was with the IE antivirus download, After using
firefox and searching for an answer, none, I bought the download, which they
charged me for more than I bought. After The download did nothing I tried to
contact them to no avail. I did a complete restore and my pc is fine. Does
this prove it was a program download instead of a virus? Please help ..I need
info.

That sounds very much like malware. They use scare tactics to get you to buy
their "antivirus" which is actually a malware.

How did you purchase the so called "antivirus"? If you use your credit card,
the most important thing to do now is to call your credit card company and
ask them to close your account and send you a new card with a different
account number. Also, buy a real antivirus software (if you don't already
have one). Then install and scan your PC with this antivirus.

Windows version? This has nothing to do with Windows Update. Your machine
was infected with hijackware.

What does "complete restore" mean?
