I had the same problems, too...notice I said "had"... Actually, I also ran
across the same problems on a family member's computer, too.
The solution: I installed Mozilla Firefox, including all of the extensions
available, and haven't had one problem since. Well, except for not being
able to access the Microsoft Update site...you cannot get into microsoft
unless you have their problem-laden IE 5.0 or above.
Mozilla Firefox is FREE, too, and an excellent browser, which is highly
rated by all the PC magazines (my guru is PC World). Try it. Firefox will
import all your favorites, too. You can always go back to IE...
