IE Crash / Recovery

IE is my default browser.
Every website link I click on starts IE but then IE crashes.
It went through recovery only to finally crash dead.
I went into options to see what was set and turned off automatic crash
recovery thinking it would stop the loops to finally crash. Well it
did but now I cannot even start IE without it immediately crashing and
closing. Pretty stupid of IE, since now I cannot fiddle with its
options.

Yes, I cleaned out the temporary folders and all other temporary files.
One in a while when it was doing the loop and crash I noticed many
links unrelated to where I was trying to go flash by in the lower left
corner if IE.

What version of IE, This did this in a previous version of IE too so
it seems that the version does not matter. My laptop finally got so
corrupted that I reinstalled all from scratch and it ran fine for
several months and then started this IE loop crash again.

Running Avast always updated virus scanner.

Changing my default browser to Chrome.

How do I clean this IE problem out?

And that would be WHICH version of Internet Explorer?

Sounds like you installed an add-on that has crappy code. In IE7, the
memory protection was added but disabled by default. This was because
there were a lot of crappy add-ons from well-known and normally trusted
sources. So Microsoft gave them time to fix their code. Many didn't.
Then in IE8, the DEP option was enabled so those crappy add-ons would
start crashing and take IE with it.

Have you tried loading IE in its no add-ons mode?

You don't need to load IE to get at the Internet Options applet. You're
saying that you cannot use the Internet Options applet from Control
Panel, too, in your unidentified version of Windows?

But we still don't WHICH version you are using NOW to even know what
previous version (of which there are many) you were using before.

How do I find the displayed version since IE will not even stay up for
one second? What foder is it in? Will properties of the .exe have the
version number I need for you? If I can find the Control Panel
options, where is ther version number there?
Thanks for your help.

No go!
I went in through Control Panel and to the Internet Options and did
both Reset and Retore advanced options. Started IE and went through
the questions. Answered as I usually do.

IE8.0.6001.1872 keeps looping on WWW.Microsoft.Com the default I put
in.

Says it is recovering the tab over and over then "crashes" with this
link showing

res://ieframe.dll/acr_error.htm#msn.com,http://www.msn.com/?ocid=iehp

I used CCLeaner to clean all that it cleans as standard files.
No help.

I did a reset in the Options then I answered questions, one of which
asked about add-ins and I said no/none. Is there some place else to
work on?

Aha. Somewhere along the line in View...Sort By... I had it set to Subject,
thinking in would keep things together by Subject. I changed that entry to
Conversations and..."voila"... the Conversations icon was no longer grayed
out and the items with the same subject (conversations) were collapsed and
could be expanded when desired.

I never mentioned resetting IE. I didn't say to [not to] *install*
anymore add-ins. What happens when you *load* (run) IE in its no-addons
mode?

Note: Corrected the lack of proper quoting due to Panic using version 15
of Windows Live Mail (which no longer quotes properly as of v15).

I start IE and get the looping.
I go to Tools\
Manage Add Ons
Every Add On status is Disabled.
All Accelerators are not enabled.

Hmmm ... not sure what and why but
I saw Tools\Developer Tools and dove in.
Never used this before.

I noticed that in the error message there was a mention of Java so ...

There is a menu Disable so I dropped it down and selected Scripts.
IE seems to be OK at first glance but I need to fiddel with it more to
see if it stays stable.

But what script? Something I can find an kill?

As I said, I used CCleaner to remove all superfluous stuff, I think.
