IE crashes after installing KB918899 (MS06-042) :(

I discovered that my internet explorer crashes very often since I
installed KB918899 on my XP professional SP1 system and I had to
uninstall it, but now I am more vulnerable because this is a critical
patch.

I also tested it out on a virtual pc machine and the bug appeared there
also so I am 100% sure it is a problem with KB918899 for SP1 systems.

Anyone here who has had the same experience ? I can't find anything on
google since the patch is only a few days old but I'm sure more people
will get into trouble with this patch.

Microsoft why don't you test you patches better before releasing them
!!!

example of when IE crashes : when I type "BHO remove" in google and
click on the first result

If anyone knows a solution or circumvent I appreciate your information.

Hi there,

I have this patch installed since 3 days and it works just fine, the google
search BHO remove and clicking the first links does not give any problems,
so the patch is just fine and the problem is your Windows XP insatallation.

Check your event viewer and log files for errors and report those here so
you might get some help.

Best regards,
Michel Denie

Having exactly the same problem on numerous machines since KB918899 was
installed. Seems to be affecting Peoplesoft applications used within IE.
Crashes when pulling data for display.

Sure I am sure, but you are not checking your log files or event viewer, the
error is fixable but not without any proper error reporting.

That is why I suggested you post the erorr(s) here so someone might give you
some help on fixing it.

Michel Denie

Michel:
Please see:
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=patc...3639813253&w=2 "I
understand that MS has taken a number of calls regarding IE browser crashes
post MS06-042 install." "I understand that MS may release a Hotfix for
MS06-042 by the end of this week."

We've had a number of folks report browser crashes when accessing Peoplesoft
applications. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

While you have my sympathies, if you're so concerned about your security,
why haven't you install SP2 yet?
