When attempting to select an optional update for installation IE6 crashes
when I try to click on the box to select a particular update. The Windows
Update log shows no error messages other than a reference to the error
report that the system always wants to send to MS. The onscreen error
message is the standard "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I can immediately
restart IE and it works fine until I try to select an update again. I
suspect this is related to the html code on the page and not the Win Update
related files. I can click on other links on the page with no problem, I
just can't select an update by clicking its box.
This behavior started about two weeks ago possibly around the time I
installed NAV2005. I have disabled NAV and my firewall with no effect.
Have also checked the Update troubleshooter and found nothing to help.
I'm running XP SP2 with all security updates thru mid-December & IE 6. I
have auto update turned on for critical updates. Haven't received one since
this issue came up but there haven't been any that I know of. Any thoughts
would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill
